On May 18, the Management Board of Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve (Quang Tri province) said that they had just rescued a rare monkey trapped in the forest.
In the process of performing forest protection patrols, removing traps and monitoring biodiversity, the working group of the Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve Management Board discovered a red-faced macaque individual trapped in a trap.
Immediately after discovering the incident, the working group quickly deployed rescue measures, removed traps and checked the health status of the monkey individual.
Through observation, the red-faced monkey was only slightly scratched, had good reflexes and still ensured mobility. After determining that it met safety conditions, the working group released the monkey back to its natural environment.
Red-faced macaques are species listed in the Vietnam Red Book, belonging to group IIB in the List of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals, as stipulated in Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019 of the Government.
Timely detection, rescue and release of red-faced monkeys back to the forest contributes to biodiversity conservation, and at the same time shows the important role of forest patrol and protection at Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve.
