On September 6, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms under the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board said that it had just received a golden monkey (Macaca mulatta) individual handed over by the People's Committee of Quang Trach commune for rescue.
Previously, Mr. Vo Minh Tam (resident of Xuan Kieu village, Quang Trach commune, Quang Tri province) discovered a yellow monkey straying into the residential area where his family lived.
The monkey disturbed furniture in the house and caught poultry, affecting the safety and property of people.
To ensure safety, Mr. Tam reported to the Head of Xuan Kieu village to coordinate the siege and arrest. After catching the monkey, Mr. Tam reported to the People's Committee of Quang Trach commune for handling according to regulations.
Quang Trach Commune People's Committee then received and carried out public notice procedures to verify the owner or legal manager of the animal individual.
After the notice period according to regulations expires, functional agencies cannot identify the owner or legal manager. The monkey individual is also identified as not being exhibits or material evidence of the law violation.
Quang Trach Commune People's Committee then handed over the gold monkey to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms for reception and care.
Immediately after receiving it, the veterinarian conducted a health check and assessed the initial physical condition. The results determined that this was a male monkey, weighing 6kg, with normal health.
The center conducts isolation, monitoring and care for the individual according to professional procedures. At the same time, the monkey individual will be restored to its physical condition and ecological habits, aiming to be re-released back to the natural environment when conditions are met.
According to the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, golden monkeys belong to group IIB according to the provisions of Circular No. 85/2025/TT-BNNMT dated December 31, 2025 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the management of endangered, precious, rare, and common forest animal species and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
People proactively notifying and coordinating with local authorities when discovering stray wild animals contributes to limiting the risk of conflicts between humans and animals, while creating conditions for individuals to be rescued and conserved according to regulations.
