From August 16, the People's Committee of Soc Trang Ward (Can Tho City) deployed the model "Saturday for the People", bringing mobile public administrative services to serve people on Saturdays right in the hamlets, instead of only handling procedures on normal days at the Ward's Public Administration Service Center.
Recorded at the headquarters of Hamlet 5, today, despite the rain, many people came to do procedures. At the reception point, officers from all fields directly supported people, and their applications were processed quickly. To create comfort, there are also cakes and mineral water on the reception table to serve the people.
Ms. Tran Thi Viet (67 years old) said that her house is more than 10 km from the headquarters of the Ward Public Administration Center, with no means of transportation, only an old bicycle. Every time she makes a document, she has to cycle back 20 km, if the vehicle is broken, she has to walk. Her income is mainly from picking vegetables and catching snails to sell every day, only a few tens of thousands, if she rents a motorbike taxi to work as a paper worker, she will have no money to live on.
Preparing for the school year, Mrs. Vet's children need to apply for admission, so when the locality opened a paperwork location near their home, she was very excited: "Today, the locality came to the village to support the people in making paperwork, I was very happy. Just walk a few steps to get there".
Ms. Tran Thi Xem - a female officer of Hamlet 5 - also said that when hearing the news of the "Saturday for the People" model serving in the area, the people were very happy. "Previously, there were poor households who could not prepare documents because they did not have money to travel, some did not have a means of transport, some did not know how to install VNeID electronic identification. Preparing for the new school year, many children still do not have documents, now being guided and supported by staff on the spot, everyone is happy", Ms. Xem shared.
Ms. Lam Thi My Nhien - Deputy Director of the Public Administration Service Center of Soc Trang Ward (Can Tho City) - said that the model will be maintained every Saturday morning, from August 16 to September 27, 2025, at the People's Committees of the neighborhood, cultural houses, schools or appropriate locations.
At mobile points, people can carry out many administrative procedures such as: registration of birth, death, marriage; issuance of copies of civil status statements; certification of copies; confirmation of admission; recognition of poor households and near-poor households; issuance and exchange of disability certificates; confirmation of residence; instructions for submitting documents online; supporting the installation of VNeID application, opening bank accounts... In addition, the program also integrates propaganda on administrative reform and the 2-level government model.
"We hope that people in remote areas, especially ethnic minorities, will have quick access to administrative procedures, saving time and costs. Bringing public services to the spot also improves the effectiveness of administrative reform and demonstrates the spirit of serving the people during the school year," said Ms. Nhien.
