Do not let people go hungry after floods in Gia Lai

Hoài Phương |

Gia Lai requires urgent restoration of production, ensuring traffic safety, schools, and preventing people from going hungry and lacking domestic water after floods.

On November 1, Mr. Duong Mah Tiep - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Head of the Gia Lai Provincial Civil Defense Command - directly inspected the flood situation and natural disaster response work in Tuy Phuoc Dong and De Gi communes.

In Tuy Phuoc Dong commune, the Commune Civil Defense Command said that the water level of rivers in the area has gradually receded, and traffic has basically been restored. However, some areas are still partially flooded, causing more than 70 households in low-lying areas to be temporarily isolated. In addition, Phuoc Thang Primary School No. 2 was still slightly flooded.

To proactively respond to complicated flood developments, the commune government has developed preventive plans, propagated and mobilized people to be ready to evacuate when the water level rises above alert level 2.

In De Gi commune, Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee inspected the relocation of households living in areas at risk of landslides on Nui Ganh (Duc Pho 1 village).

According to the People's Committee of De Gi commune, the locality has mobilized local forces including militia, police, youth unions and village officials to urgently visit each household to support the evacuation of people and property to safe places.

To date, 15 households with 51 people in the area at high risk of landslides have been taken to safe temporary shelters. The commune government has arranged forces to be on duty regularly in the Ganh Mountain area, strictly control, block the entrances and exits, and prevent people from returning to the dangerous area.

"Immediately restore production, ensure traffic safety, schools and public works. Do not let people go hungry or lack water for daily use after floods, soon stabilize their lives and production", Mr. Duong Mah Tiep directed.
