This is the first time in the winter of 2024-2025 that ice has appeared on Lao Than mountain peak. Meanwhile, on Fansipan peak, 3,143 m above sea level in Sa Pa town, there has been ice twice.
According to the leader of the People's Committee of Y Ty commune, the locality has requested villages and hamlets to inform people to proactively keep warm, especially the elderly and children; at the same time, cover barns and store food for livestock and poultry.
According to locals in Y Ty commune, this afternoon, in areas with an altitude of 2,600m or higher, the temperature dropped to -3 degrees Celsius, causing snow to cover the mountains and forests.
It is known that today is the first day that strong cold air affects the entire North. The lowest temperature of 3 degrees Celsius was recorded at Mau Son peak (Lang Son), Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Pha Din (Dien Bien), Dong Van (Ha Giang) around 5 degrees Celsius.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the peak of this cold spell will be tomorrow day and night (January 12) when the temperature in the highlands will be below 3 degrees Celsius in some places, 6-9 degrees Celsius in the mountains, 12-14 degrees Celsius in the plains and midlands, and below 12 degrees Celsius in some places.
