Phu Quoc City Party Committee has just issued Official Letter No. 1313 on "voluntary registration to work in Tho Chau island district".
According to the leader of Phu Quoc City, the issuance of Official Letter 1313 is based on Official Letter No. 8242/BNV-CQDP dated December 17, 2024 of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the policy of establishing Tho Chau island district in Kien Giang province; Implement Official Letter No. 1418-CV/TU dated January 22, 2025 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on urgently developing a Project to establish Tho Chau island district in Kien Giang province.
To prepare well for the organizational apparatus and personnel when Tho Chau commune is granted the authority to announce the decision to establish Tho Chau island district in Kien Giang province. With the consensus of the Department of Home Affairs of Kien Giang province, Phu Quoc City Party Committee requires agencies, departments, and organizations of the city; People's Committees of communes and wards to deploy to cadres, civil servants, and public employees who wish to work in Tho Chau island district to register a list according to the form, and send it to the City Party Committee (through the Department of Home Affairs) for synthesis and reporting to competent authorities for consideration and decision.
Previously, Phu Quoc City Party Committee also issued an official dispatch directing the urgent dissemination, dissemination and organization of collecting voters' opinions on the project to establish Tho Chau island district in Kien Giang province.
The Standing Committee of Phu Quoc City Party Committee requested the City People's Committee to direct local authorities at all levels to properly implement the process and procedures and organize the collection of voters' opinions according to regulations. At the same time, promote propaganda work to create consensus among the people.
Tho Chau commune is one of two archipelagos of Phu Quoc city, located in the extreme southwest of Vietnam, consisting of 8 islands, of which Tho Chu is the largest island, with a developed economic population. The natural area of the commune is 13.98 km2, the population is more than 1,800 people, and there are 6 streams that can provide clean water for daily life for the people on the island.
Economic growth rate of 10-12%/year, commercial logistics services for fisheries account for 46%, agriculture, forestry and fishery account for 37.8%, construction industry 16.2%. On the island, there are health stations, kindergartens, and 24/7 electricity, the roads around the island have been concreted, the number of poor households has decreased to 1.46%.
However, with the conditions of the commune, there are still shortcomings in the implementation of potential resource mobilization, requiring the establishment of a district-level government organization model suitable to meet management requirements in the area.
