At 4:45 a.m. on November 28, the Naval Region 5 Command received a notice from the An Thoi Border Guard Station (in particular Phu Quoc area, An Giang province) about a ship carrying construction materials capsizing and sinking in the Southeast of Ong Doi Cape (Phu Quoc) about 3 nautical miles, due to strong waves and strong winds.
The ship in distress has the registration number Tra Vinh 6161 of Phu Thanh One Member Co., Ltd. (An Giang), captained by Mr. Khoan Van Nghia (born in 1969, permanent resident of An Giang province). On the boat were 2 crew members, traveling from Ba Hon (Kien Luong, An Giang) to Phu Quoc.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Naval Region 5 Command mobilized Ship 467 and Mobile Ship 954 to the area of the ship in distress to organize search, rescue, and relief; and at the same time reported to the Navy Command.
By 8:30 a.m. the same day, Ship 954 had successfully detected and rescued 2 crew members in the Dong Hon Thom area, 3 nautical miles from An Thoi. The officers and soldiers of the unit conducted health check-ups, gave first aid, then handed over to Ship 467 to receive and bring the two crew members to shore; the health of the two crew members was stable. After that, the two crew members in distress will be handed over to An Thoi Border Guard Station in accordance with regulations.
