Many positive changes
According to the People's Committee of Duc Xuyen Commune (Krong No District), by 2024, the locality has basically met the criteria for reaching the new rural destination. The most prominent of these are the planning and construction of the traffic system, employment for workers, and the poverty rate of about 4.2%.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, in Duc Xuyen commune, recalls: "Five years ago, roads and schools in villages and hamlets in the area were degraded, making it difficult for people to travel. Facilities in kindergartens and primary schools in the area were still lacking, affecting the quality of training."
According to Ms. Thuy, currently, local authorities at all levels have invested resources to renovate and upgrade roads to facilitate trade and the circulation of goods. Schools have been upgraded, and children can study in an environment with full amenities and equipment.
"The appearance of our commune is changing in a positive direction. People are excited to do business, develop the economy, and escape poverty sustainably," Ms. Thuy added.
Mr. Ho Quoc Bao - Chairman of Duc Xuyen Commune People's Committee said: "In 2024, the average income per capita in the area will reach 53.84 million VND/year, an increase of more than 5 million VND compared to 2023.
Thanks to funding from the National Target Programs, the commune has gradually completed the criteria to meet the new rural standards. Infrastructure such as electricity, roads, schools, and medical stations have been renovated and upgraded. The poor have been trained in vocational skills and have a sustainable economic livelihood.
More than 6km from Duc Xuyen commune, the infrastructure and life of people in Quang Phu commune are also gradually changing in a positive direction.
Quang Phu Commune is one of the localities of Krong No district that will reach the new rural finish line in 2024. Currently, the important criteria for being recognized as meeting new rural standards have been completed by the People's Committee of Quang Phu Commune, the poverty rate has decreased sharply in the period 2021 - 2024.
Contacted Mr. Ngo Quang Chieu (construction worker in Quang Phu commune) and 3 workers who were busy constructing a State project in the area.
According to Mr. Chieu, in 2024, construction workers like us will have steady work. Every month and every quarter, we undertake construction and repair of roads in villages and hamlets or upgrade and renovate schools.
"Having lived in the commune for more than 30 years, looking back, I see the locality changing day by day. The lives of ethnic minorities are better off than before, people's incomes have improved, and the rate of poor and near-poor households has been reduced," said Mr. Chieu excitedly.
Poverty rate drops sharply
In 2024, the number of poor households in Krong No district will be only 538, accounting for 2.72% (a decrease of 210 households compared to 2023, reaching 132.5% of the plan assigned by the province). The number of near-poor households will be 1,674 households with 7,795 people, accounting for 8.47%, a decrease of 604 households compared to 2023.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Danh - Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong No district said that in recent times, the district has mobilized maximum resources, especially from the capital of the National Target Program to support poor, near-poor households or households that cannot escape poverty to rise up and stabilize their lives.
The rate of near-poor and poor households will decrease sharply in 2024 thanks to the efforts of the entire political system and the spirit of overcoming difficulties of the people themselves.
According to Mr. Danh, the People's Committees of communes and towns promptly and creatively implement good practices in poverty reduction policies and improve people's living conditions.
By the end of 2024, communes such as Buon Choah, Quang Phu, and Duc Xuyen will reach the new rural finish line. In these localities, the appearance of infrastructure and people's lives have changed day by day, month by month.
"This achievement is partly due to the combination of hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and income improvement for people with the work of building new rural areas at the grassroots level," Mr. Danh emphasized.
