Dedication and sacrifice for the Fatherland
In a house in My Thanh village, Cam Due commune, Ha Tinh province, Mr. Trinh Ngoc Ky (76 years old) still preserves memories of the revolutionary tradition of his family through many generations.
Mr. Ky said that during the anti-American resistance war, his father, Trinh Ngoc Van, participated in combat service. His mother, Mrs. Tran Thi Cam, also participated in combat service.
Ms. Tran Thi Cam is the person who raised and worshiped martyr Tran Van Binh - her younger brother, who sacrificed in 1965. Currently, she lives with Mr. Trinh Ngoc Ky's family.
Mr. Ky's wife is Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan (76 years old), who participated in youth volunteers from 1971 to 1974 and is currently entitled to benefits like a wounded soldier.
Mr. Ky and his wife have 5 children. Among them, their daughter Tran Thi Huy (49 years old) is affected by Agent Orange and cannot walk. All daily activities of her are taken care of and supported by Mr. Ky and his wife.
Also in Cam Due commune, Mr. Tran Van Huong (68 years old, residing in Na Trung village) said that his family also had many people participating in the revolution and fighting in the resistance wars.
His father was Tran Du, commonly known as Tran Bieu, who participated in the revolution from 1947 to 1978.
Mr. Huong's eldest brother joined the anti-American army, was wounded on the battlefield, and received war invalid benefits. The second older brother also participated in the anti-American war, currently living in Khanh Hoa province and participating in the local Veterans Association.
During the war, Mr. Huong's older sister also participated in fire line civilian labor.
Contributing to building the homeland
Continuing family tradition, Mr. Trinh Ngoc Ky has many years of working in the locality. He used to hold the position of Chairman of Cam Thach Commune People's Committee (now Cam Due) for 2 terms, then served as Secretary of the Commune Party Committee for one term before retiring in 2010.
According to Mr. Ky, his father was also a party member, holding the position of Chairman of the People's Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Cam Thach commune for many years. After that, he transferred to work at the Cam Xuyen District Party Committee and then became Head of the Trade Department.
Recalling the years of work, Mr. Ky recounted that the most memorable memory for him was once a woman came to meet him at his office and gave him a pack of cigarettes worth 2,500 VND.
Later, I accidentally learned that to get that pack of cigarettes, that woman had to borrow from a grocery store because she had no money to buy them. Since then, I have quit smoking until now," Mr. Ky shared.
According to Mr. Ky, in the past, the lives of officials and people were very difficult. Many official families also had to farm like farmers to have enough to eat, wear and raise their children to study.
The current socio-economic development speed is really very fast. Previously, most of them were thatched houses with earthen walls, but now in rural areas there are many spacious high-rise houses. Many families have cars, and life is increasingly prosperous and wealthy," Mr. Ky said.
Mr. Tran Van Huong also worked for many years in the locality. He started working as a cadre of Cam Thach commune in 1980. From 2010 to 2015, he held the position of Chairman of the Commune People's Committee; then became Deputy Secretary of the Commune Party Committee until 2020 when he retired.
According to Mr. Huong, when he first became a cadre, the country still maintained a subsidy mechanism, so the economy was still facing many difficulties, and people's lives mainly relied on agricultural production, but the productivity was very low.
At that time, rice yield in Cam Thach commune only reached about 1.2 quintals/sao. After the abolition of the subsidy mechanism, the efficiency of cultivation and animal husbandry increased significantly, and people's lives gradually improved.
The new rural construction has brought many changes to the homeland. The system of facilities and infrastructure is increasingly synchronized and modern; traffic is convenient, and people's lives are improved," Mr. Huong assessed.
Also according to Mr. Huong, the country has just carried out a major revolution in arranging the organizational structure, abolishing the district level, merging communes and some provinces to create larger-scale administrative units.
The initial stage will certainly have difficulties. However, I believe this is the right policy, contributing to bringing homeland and country to develop in the new era - the era of rise of the Vietnamese nation," Mr. Huong expressed.
