Lai Chau takes DNA samples, digitizes information on martyrs' remains

Lai Chau - More than 200 martyrs' remains need to be sampled for DNA testing because incomplete information has not been identified.

On June 6, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Lai Chau province (Steering Committee 515) organized the practice of the process of taking samples, handing over samples and digitizing martyrs' remains information.

Currently, Lai Chau has 9 Martyrs' Cemeteries, with a total of 1,343 graves; 72 martyrs have not been found and repatriated; 205 martyrs' remains need to be sampled for DNA testing because incomplete information has not been identified.

Specifically at the martyrs' cemetery in Than Uyen commune, out of a total of 150 graves, 90 martyrs' graves have not been identified, and DNA testing samples are needed.

According to Steering Committee 515, after excavation, the forces will compare between archival records, management diagrams and the actual status of each grave to ensure the accuracy of the martyr's remains before handing them over for DNA testing. All related information is also digitized and fully updated according to regulations.

Implementing the 500 Days and Nights Campaign, Lai Chau province has also strengthened the collection and survey of hundreds of sources of information about martyrs who sacrificed during the resistance wars and organized direct transportation of witnesses to the scene for guidance to zone off and determine locations.
