On September 21, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Thai Luong Thien - Chairman of Yen Na Commune People's Committee, Nghe An province - said that the locality has completed the transportation of 172 students in Huoi Pai and Cha Lum villages to semi-boarding schools, preparing for the beginning of the week's study.
Previously, in the afternoon of September 19, due to the impact of heavy rain, thousands of cubic meters of soil, rocks and forest trees from Bu Pai hill slid down, burying provincial road 543C, and at the same time spilling down to block Cha Ha stream.
The landslide completely cut off the traffic route from the two villages of Huoi Pai and Cha Lum to the center of Yen Na commune. More than 300 households with more than 1,200 people are isolated, including many primary and secondary school students who need to return to boarding schools to continue studying.
Due to the large volume of landslides, the recovery and opening of provincial road 543C cannot be completed immediately. Yen Na commune authorities have mobilized officials, functional forces, teachers, parents and people to open temporary roads to take students to school.
The forces cleared trees and opened a road more than 1km long through the mountainous forest area, avoiding the landslide point.
At locations with streams and creeks blocking, local authorities and people use bamboo, rattan and suitable trees to build bridges. After many hours of implementation, two temporary bridges were completed, creating a walkway to replace the road buried by soil and rocks.
Local authorities coordinate with schools and parents to organize students to move in groups through the newly opened road.
Functional forces are deployed at key locations, especially the temporary bridge area, to support students in carrying belongings and guide them to move safely.
By the afternoon of September 20, all 172 students in the two villages of Huoi Pai and Cha Lum had been taken out of the cut-off area. Among these, there were 64 primary school students and 108 secondary school students.
The children have been arranged to eat, rest, and live at boarding schools to continue their studies.
According to the Yen Na commune government, the locality is continuing to monitor the diễn biến of landslides, mobilize forces and vehicles to overcome provincial road 543C, striving to soon restore traffic, creating conditions for people to travel, live and students to go to school conveniently.
