Near Tet, the largest gladioli granary in the Central region is lush green with flower fields
An Phu commune is currently the largest gladioli specialized area in the Central region, mainly concentrated in Binh Dong and Ho Tieu villages. The whole commune has nearly 100 households growing gladioli with an area of more than 20 hectares, serving the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026 market.
Gladiolus growing in An Phu has been around for decades, becoming a stable source of income for people every Tet holiday. An Phu gladiolus is famous for the long-standing care experience of the people, giving beautiful flowers, large branches, and bright colors. During the Lunar New Year, gladiolus are bought by people to display on altars and decorate in homes. Not only consumed in Quang Ngai province, An Phu gladiolus is also sold to the Central and Central Highlands provinces.

According to flower growers, compared to last year's Tet crop, this year the weather is more stable, pests and diseases are reduced, helping gladioli grow evenly, with firm buds and healthy branches. This is a positive sign for people to expect a bumper flower season and good prices.
Attached to the flower growing profession for more than 25 years, Mr. Vo Mau (Binh Dong village, An Phu commune) said that right from the beginning of the season, his family has proactively calculated the time to sow so that flowers bloom right for Tet.
This year, the trees are developing well, and buds are coming out evenly. If this momentum is maintained, around the 20th day of the twelfth lunar month, gladioli harvest can begin. If there is a good harvest and good prices, each sao can bring in 60-70 million VND, not including expenses," Mr. Mau excitedly said.
According to people, gladiolus flowers are very "difficult" about the time of blooming. If they bloom early, they are difficult to sell, and the selling price is low; if they bloom late, they will miss the Tet market - the largest consumption time of the year. Therefore, all care stages must be carefully calculated so that the flowers bloom at the right time.
The joyful atmosphere is also clearly visible on the flower fields of Mrs. Dang Thi Nho's family (Binh Dong village, An Phu commune). This year's Tet flower crop, her family planted 7 sao of gladiolus with many colors such as dark red, pear yellow, tiger yellow... to serve the market.
Each sao invests tens of millions of VND, my family plants 7 sao, calculated to be hundreds of millions of VND. But this year there are fewer pests and diseases, flowers develop evenly, many buds, and branches are bigger and healthier than last year. Flower growers are all excited, placing high expectations on this Tet flower crop, just hoping the weather will continue to stabilize so that flowers bloom on time," Ms. Nho shared.
Caring for each bud, keeping flowers blooming at the right time for Tet
In the flower field, Ms. Nguyen Thi But (Binh Dong village, An Phu commune) is busy weeding and taking care of gladioli, saying that this year's Tet flower crop, her family planted 4 sao of gladioli.
According to Ms. But, gladiolus is entering a period of strong development. People are focusing on care, planting trees, and casting nets to prevent wind from causing them to fall. This is an important production season, bringing the main income to the family, so these days, people are often present at the flower fields to promptly take care of and prevent pests and diseases.

This year, prolonged heavy rain has caused many flower fields to be flooded and root rot. When the rain just stopped, cold air rushed back, slowing down the growth rate of gladioli. However, since planting, the weather has generally been favorable, and flower plants have developed well," Ms. But said.
Gladiolus is not only a traditional flower in every Vietnamese family during Tet, but also a crop that brings high economic value to local people.
In addition to growing flowers, An Phu people also intercrop chili peppers on gladioli beds. After harvesting Tet flowers, from January, the chili pepper harvest season will begin, helping to increase income.
According to Vice Chairman of An Phu Commune People's Committee Vo Thi Thu Van, the whole commune currently has more than 200 households growing flowers of all kinds with a total area of over 50 hectares. Among them, gladioli is the main crop with more than 70 households participating in production.
