On July 8, information from the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, summarizing the first 6 months of 2026 from the Department of Construction showed that the locality has overcome 4,637/4,890 inadequacies in road traffic safety, reaching nearly 95%, contributing to reducing congestion and improving the efficiency of traffic infrastructure exploitation.
According to the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, in the first 6 months of 2026, the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the area continued to record many positive changes.
People's awareness and compliance with traffic laws have been raised, while traffic infrastructure has been gradually invested synchronously.
Many roads have been expanded, and traffic lights and cameras have been installed. Traffic congestion has decreased significantly, especially on National Highway 70, National Highway 4D and National Highway 32.
Violations of carrying overloaded and oversized goods, and extending the truck bed are basically controlled; transport businesses and drivers are raising awareness of complying with legal regulations.
To date, the whole province has overcome 4,637/4,890 inadequacies in road traffic safety, reaching about 94.8%.
In which, national highways handled 346/361 locations (95.8%), provincial roads repaired 715/724 locations (96.9%) and commune roads completed 3,576/3,805 locations (94%).
According to the plan, in 2026, Lao Cai will complete the handling of the remaining 253 locations, and at the same time continue to review and promptly overcome newly arising traffic unsafe spots.
Along with that, 488 school gate areas have been installed with speed bumps, warning signs and speed limit signs to ensure safety for students.

On the national railway line passing through the province, there are currently 37 level crossings with barriers and 377 intersections between roads and railways being monitored and managed.
The work of maintaining and upgrading traffic infrastructure has also been promoted. The whole province has 9 national highways with a total length of 944.2km, of which about 866.5km has been repaired, upgraded and paved with asphalt concrete; the remaining part will continue to be invested in the 2026-2031 period.
For 27 provincial roads with a length of more than 1,425km, nearly 894km are being renovated and upgraded. The system of commune roads, urban roads and rural transport is also being invested to increase connectivity between tourist areas, production areas and rural areas.
However, according to the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, the locality still faces many challenges due to the complex hilly terrain, frequent fog and snow in winter and landslides and flash floods in the rainy season.
In addition, the volume of vehicles is increasing, especially in border gate areas and tourist destinations, creating great pressure on traffic infrastructure and potentially causing localized congestion during holidays and Tet.
In the coming time, Lao Cai will continue to strengthen the application of technology in traffic management, regularly review unsafe points, and accelerate the progress of key infrastructure projects.
At the same time, tighten the management of transport activities, vehicle inspection and driver training to ensure traffic order and safety in the area.
