Lao Cai completes the elimination of more than 10,000 temporary and dilapidated houses

Lao Cai - With high determination, the province has completed the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.

On the afternoon of June 19, Lao Cai province held a conference to announce the completion of the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province.

Reporting at the conference, the leader of the Department of Construction said that the need to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province is 10,707 houses (build 7,352 new houses, repair 3,355 houses).

Of which, people with revolutionary contributions and martyrs' relatives have 274 houses (115 newly built, 159 repaired); poor households and near-poor households have 10,433 houses (7,237 newly built, 3,196 repaired).

With a high sense of responsibility, by May 2025, the whole province has implemented 10,707/10,707 apartments. The completion progress of the districts, towns and cities has reached 100% and exceeded the set plan.

The total cost of the program is more than 1,087 billion VND to support the construction and repair of 10,707 new houses.

Localities have mobilized to contribute about 19,520 working days and mobilized other support resources such as cement, iron, steel, bricks, ... (about 8 billion VND) to join hands to implement the program, improving the quality of houses to support people.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, said that the province's announcement of the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province is an opportunity to look back on the entire process and methods of directing implementation from 2020 to present as well as draw valuable lessons.

The announcement took place in a very special context when the district-level activities ended, implementing the 2-level local government model from July 1, 2025.

Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong said that despite facing many difficulties and challenges, Lao Cai province has made great efforts, comprehensively and synchronously directed the entire political system, with high support from the business community and the people of the whole province to complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses 2 months earlier than the Central Government assigned.

According to the Provincial Party Secretary and Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, this is the largest volume ever with the completion of the demolition of more than 16,000 temporary and dilapidated houses; in 2024 - 2025 alone, 10,707 houses were built, repaired and demolished.

In particular, the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses uses huge resources with over VND1,000 billion from many different sources.

On this occasion, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee presented Certificates of Merit to 17 collectives and 13 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the Movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Lao Cai province by 2025".
