Lao Cai studies using sedimentary sand from hydropower reservoirs as building materials

Lao Cai - In order to remove difficulties in the supply of construction materials for projects, the province is studying a plan to utilize silted sand and gravel at hydropower reservoirs.

On July 27, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, the unit has just issued an official dispatch requesting departments, branches, localities and investors to seriously implement the recommendations of the Supervisory Delegation of the Economic - Budget Committee of the Provincial People's Council on the situation of supplying construction materials to serve investment projects in the area.

Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to study and advise on plans to manage, exploit and utilize materials from mine waste soil and rock; sand and gravel deposits at hydropower reservoirs to supplement construction materials, contributing to reducing the pressure of material shortages for projects, and at the same time limiting resource waste.

In addition, this department is assigned to review projects with risks of lack of construction materials, fluctuations in material prices, transportation costs and labor costs to promptly propose solutions, ensuring construction progress, project quality and investment efficiency.

At the same time, strengthen coordination to resolve administrative procedures, remove difficulties for businesses exploiting and processing construction materials as well as investors and contractors.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to inspect all mineral mines for ordinary construction materials that have been licensed but have not been put into operation or have not reached capacity; identify the causes and propose handling solutions.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is also assigned to study a plan to manage and use materials generated after natural disasters and storms, contributing to supplementing the supply of construction materials and effectively treating the volume of arising soil and rock.

The Department of Construction is assigned to improve the quality of surveys, information collection and announcement of construction material prices close to market developments; strengthen inspection of price declarations of enterprises; forecast the demand for materials to serve key projects and advise on solutions to balance supply and demand of materials in the area.

For localities that generate large volumes of soil, rocks, and sand after natural disasters and storms, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee requests them to proactively review and develop management plans, utilize or handle them in accordance with the law, contributing to the effective use of resources and ensuring material sources for infrastructure development.
