Recently, the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Lao Cai province have issued many documents directing the work of ensuring traffic order and safety (TTATGT).
Departments, branches and localities have basically implemented seriously, thereby the traffic safety situation has changed positively, the number of traffic accidents (TNGT) decreased compared to the same period in 2024.
According to statistics, from December 15, 2024 to September 7, 2025, the whole province had 196 road traffic accidents, killing 80 people and injuring 196 people.
Compared to the same period last year, there were 65 fewer cases, 21 deaths and 33 injuries. There were 2 traffic accidents on the railway line, killing 1 person and injuring 1 person (reducing 1 case, reducing 2 deaths but increasing 1 injury).
Notably, there were no waterway traffic accidents.
Although the number of accidents has decreased, the traffic situation has tended to increase recently, especially serious and fatal accidents.
The main reason is that the awareness of law compliance of a part of the population is still limited: many cases of drivers who have consumed alcohol, beer, driven at high speed, encroaching on lanes, and lacking supervision.
In addition, propaganda work in some localities is still formal, not focusing on high-risk groups. The review and recommendation of handling of "black spots" and shortcomings in traffic infrastructure has not been carried out regularly and lacks urging.
Faced with the above situation, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has issued plans to request tightening discipline and order in ensuring traffic safety.
In particular, emphasizing the strict ban on cadres, party members, civil servants, and public employees from using alcohol and beer when participating in traffic; strictly handling, "no forbidden areas, no exceptions" for all violations.
The People's Committee of Lao Cai province also assigned the Provincial Police to preside over and coordinate with localities to organize the signing of a commitment to comply with traffic laws for 100% of households, students, drivers and transportation businesses, striving to complete before September 25, 2025.
At the same time, promote propaganda on the grassroots loudspeaker system, combine inspection and handling of violations that are direct causes of traffic accidents.
In parallel, functional sectors are required to urgently review and overcome unreasonable points in traffic organization and road infrastructure; install speed limiters, signs, and traffic lights at necessary locations, ensuring safety in school areas and key routes.
With strong direction from the province to the grassroots, Lao Cai aims to reduce traffic accidents, prevent particularly serious incidents, ensure safety for people and build a healthy traffic culture in the area.
