On April 7, Vung Tau Ward People's Committee (HCMC) said that it had a document reporting to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Science and Technology of HCMC on the development of phenomena and handling directions in the seawater incident in Bai Sau area.
According to local records, in recent days, the seawater in the coastal area of Vung Tau has shown signs of turning green (similar to green tea color), and patches of foam appearing on the water surface.
When the tide recedes, it is recorded that the water has floating scum, with a pinkish-purple color accompanied by the fishy smell of broken seaweed and algae. Besides, under the impact of waves, a layer of green moss appears scattered on the sand beach along with some small dead fish floating ashore, affecting the aesthetics of the beach area.
The Institute of Marine Engineering has coordinated with Vung Tau Ward People's Committee to take water samples for analysis and assessment of seawater quality and as a basis for determining the cause.
Vung Tau Ward People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology to organize surveys and professional assessments to accurately determine the cause of the above phenomenon. Guide technical and professional measures for localities to proactively respond in case of recurrence.
At the same time, direct the Public Service Supply Center to organize hourly inspections to promptly detect abnormal signs of seawater; request Vung Tau Urban and Environmental Services Joint Stock Company to increase personnel and vehicles to quickly organize collection on the same day, thoroughly handle all waste drifting to the beach (drifting foam, dead fish carcasses, domestic waste, other ocean waste...); Implement daily quick reports before 5 pm to fully reflect the developments of the situation, handling results and actual images.
