On September 18, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province confirmed that it had inspected and verified information that cows from the project provided to people in Huong Hoa district had foot-and-mouth disease.
Accordingly, from 2021, 2022, 2023 in Huong Hoa district, there will be no foot-and-mouth disease in livestock.
But on June 29, 2024, in Huong Phung commune, 14 cows received by people from the project were found to have foot-and-mouth disease. Of these, 7 were supplied by Tan Thanh Livestock Seed Company and 7 were supplied by Toan Thinh Pacific Company Limited.
Similarly, in Huc commune (Huong Hoa district), after receiving the breeding animals, from August 1, 2024 to August 5, 2024, 9 cows were found to have foot-and-mouth disease.
As of September 3, 2024, the whole commune had 54 buffaloes and cows infected with the disease. Of these, 15 were supplied by Tan Thanh Livestock Seed Company Limited.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province confirmed that the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Huong Phung and Huc communes was discovered after some households received project cows.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province also confirmed that after foot-and-mouth disease appeared in Huong Phung commune, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Huong Hoa district did not report on the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in cattle in the area to relevant agencies.
Faced with the situation where project cows given to people developed diseases and spread to domestic cows, causing damage and the authorities did not report promptly, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province reported to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province for consideration and direction.
It is known that in 2023 and 2024, Tan Thanh Plant and Animal Breeding Company Limited won 21 bid packages/21 projects under the national target program with a total of 336 cows and 78 goats in localities in Huong Hoa district.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper had many articles and information about the foot and mouth disease outbreak, which then spread to cattle in Huong Hoa district and other districts in Quang Tri province. The cause of the foot and mouth disease outbreak and its spread was from project cattle given to people, and the authorities were slow to report to isolate and contain the outbreak.
