On February 5th, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of Ham Rong Ward People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, said that at the time of the incident of prying and stealing equipment at Ham Rong Conference Center, local functional forces caught 2 groups of students red-handed.
“There are 2 groups of students riding bicycles to this central area, then going inside to cut electric wires and take copper cores for the purpose of selling. The incidents occurred around October and November 2025. When the incident was discovered, the center's security guard reported it to the ward authorities. Immediately after that, functional forces proceeded to verify and clarify” - a representative of Ham Rong Ward People's Committee informed.
According to a representative of Ham Rong Ward People's Committee, the two groups of students who caused the incident were about 6 - 7 students, both middle school students. At the meeting, the students admitted that because they saw no one guarding the area, they went to the center to cut electrical wires, take copper cores and some valuable equipment to sell.
After initial verification, the case has been transferred to the police agency for handling measures according to regulations. At the same time, local authorities also notified schools to strengthen propaganda, education, and deterrence.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, Ham Rong Conference Center (in Ham Rong ward, Thanh Hoa province) was started in December 2012 and put into use in November 2014, with a total investment of about 160 billion VND.
In 2015, the center was requisitioned as a temporary workplace for the Thanh Hoa City Party Committee and the Thanh Hoa City People's Committee (old). In 2019, these units moved, causing the Ham Rong Conference Center to stop operating.
In 2020, the project continued to be requisitioned as a centralized isolation area to serve COVID-19 prevention and control. After a short period of use, the center was abandoned for many years.
After a long period of not being exploited, many equipment and items inside Ham Rong Conference Center have deteriorated and been damaged. To avoid waste and promote the effectiveness of the project, recently Ham Rong Ward People's Committee has proposed to Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee to study a plan to convert the function of this center into a nursing home.
