At 1:00 p.m. on September 28, the impact of storm No. 10 caused heavy rain, continuous gusts of wind, and high waves in Cua Viet area.
Luckily, more than 2 crew members on the sunken boat, fisherman Nguyen Van Truong (born in 1990, from An Giang province) was rescued and taken to the ambulance.
Just over an hour before, Nguyen Van Truong was still trying to hold on to a seaborne about 300m from shore in Pho Hoi village (Nam Cua Viet commune, Quang Tri province).
Mr. Truong said that when the boat had a problem and sank, he and 2 fishermen on the boat clung to a black buoy. But the waves were too big, he discussed with the two men that they had to swim to shore, otherwise they would be pulled away by the waves.

However, the big waves swept the two people out of the lifeboat, while none of them were wearing life jackets. Mr. Truong could not survive and was dropped from the black buoy, but luckily caught up with the maritime buoy. On the buoy there was a rope, he held to it, and was hit by each strong wave, sometimes the buoy was submerged in water.
Looking at the shore, Mr. Truong clearly saw the rescue force but the waves were strong and the wind was strong, and they could not rescue.
At around 12 noon the same day, seeing the waves rising and Mr. Truong being kicked off the buoy, he decided to release the rope and quickly swam to shore.
"I thought I could not get to shore, but I tried and luckily got close to shore and was rescued by the forces" - Mr. Truong said.
According to Major Doan Thanh Tu, Deputy Captain of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of Area 1 of Quang Tri Provincial Police, after discovering the situation, the forces urgently approached Mr. Truong to bring him to shore.
"We have deployed people and vehicles, life jackets and ropes to reach the victim as quickly as possible to support, avoiding the victim from getting tired and having to drop off her arms at that time, which could endanger her life. With the support of the people, we were able to reach the victims and successfully bring them to shore" - Major Doan Thanh Tu recounted.
Previously, as reported, on the same morning, there were 2 fishing boats moving into Cua Viet port to avoid storm No. 10, one ran aground and the other sank.
1 fisherman swam to shore himself, the border guards coordinated with the fishermen to rescue 7 crew members. As of 1:00 p.m. on September 28, the two crew members were still missing. Rescue and search work is being carried out.
