On October 28, information from Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company confirmed that due to the influence of storm Tra Mi (storm No. 6), from the afternoon of October 27, the water level on the Sa Lung River, where the railway line passes, rose.
In Vinh Long commune (Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province), rising floodwaters caused severe flooding in the river basin on both sides; by the evening of October 27, water flooded the railway and affected the railway infrastructure, disrupting train operations.
After the water receded, it was noted that stations 1, 3 and N2, N4 were flooded, and the upper floors were damaged.
In particular, from Sa Lung station to the South, the section from Km 587 +300 to Km 589 was flooded and caused erosion and drifting of the rock foundation in many sections. The eroded roadbed caused the railway to drift to the left of the line for a length of about 350m, the largest point drifting was 3.9m from the center of the old track.
Faced with the above situation, the railway industry has mobilized human resources, materials, equipment and developed a solution plan.
As of the evening of October 28, the problem has not yet been resolved.
