According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the pre-feasibility study report of the two projects Can Gio Bridge and Thu Thiem 4 Bridge has been submitted to the City Appraisal Council (through the Department of Planning and Investment - the standing agency) since December 2023.
The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City also advised the People's Committee and the Party Committee of the People's Committee to report to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
After that, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee directed: “Do not ignore important legal procedures and conditions for starting the project to meet the requirement of starting construction on April 30, 2025. This is to avoid difficulties, problems and legal risks later, which may delay the project.”
Currently, the Department of Planning and Architecture of Ho Chi Minh City is consulting the City People's Committee to submit for approval the Project to adjust the general planning of Ho Chi Minh City to 2040, with a vision to 2060.
After this project is approved by the Prime Minister, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said it will complete and submit to competent authorities for approval the pre-feasibility study reports of both projects.
Strive to start construction of Can Gio Bridge and Thu Thiem 4 Bridge in 2025 and complete in 2028.
Thu Thiem 4 Bridge connects Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City) with District 7, crossing the Saigon River, with a total length of 2.16 km (of which the main bridge is more than 1.6 km long).
The starting point of the project is at the intersection of Tan Thuan 2 Bridge - Nguyen Van Linh, going along Nguyen Van Linh Street, turning onto Huynh Tan Phat Street, connecting to Luu Trong Lu Street (District 7). The bridge continues to cross Tan Thuan Port, crosses the Saigon River connecting Thu Thiem Urban Area at the intersection of the North-South axis and Bui Thien Ngo Street.
The total investment of Thu Thiem 4 bridge project is expected to be more than 6,000 billion VND under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.
When completed, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge will help shorten travel time between Thu Duc City, Binh Thanh District with Districts 7, 8, Nha Be and Binh Chanh; at the same time, reduce the load on existing roads such as Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Khanh Hoi Bridge, Huynh Tan Phat and Nguyen Van Linh.
Can Gio Bridge connects Can Gio district with Nha Be district, crossing Soai Rap river, with a total length of about 7.3 km.
The project starts from Road 15B (parallel to Huynh Tan Phat, Nha Be District), crosses the river and connects to Rung Sac Road in Can Gio District. The total estimated investment is over 10,500 billion VND, also in the form of BOT.
Can Gio Bridge will replace Binh Khanh ferry, creating a convenient traffic connection from Ho Chi Minh City's only island district to the city center. The project also promotes the development of the Can Gio coastal urban area and the Can Gio International Transit Port.
