This information was announced on November 7 at a meeting of the Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. Since the beginning of the year, the authorities of Quang Ngai province have administratively sanctioned 163 cases of violations in the fisheries sector, with a total fine of more than VND2.8 billion. Of these, 100 vehicles were fined for losing connection to the signal of the journey monitoring device while operating at sea, with a fine of VND2.5 billion.

Quang Ngai province has also zoned off key fishing areas, focusing on localities such as Pho Thanh ward (Duc Pho town), Binh Chau commune (Binh Son district) and Ly Son district, to strengthen forces, both to propagate and mobilize, and to promptly detect and prevent IUU fishing activities early. In particular, the province is determined to prevent and not allow local fishing vessels and fishermen to violate illegal fishing in foreign waters.

Quang Ngai has 4,710 fishing vessels, of which fishing vessels are 15m or longer, 3,066 are offshore fishing vessels. Currently, 2,967 fishing vessels have installed voyage monitoring devices out of a total of 3,066 fishing vessels 15m or longer that are required to install, reaching a rate of 98.8% of the total number of vessels in operation.
