Pumps operate at full capacity, Deo But slope is still flooded about 70cm

Quang Ninh - Although the rain has stopped, Deo But slope on National Highway 18 is still flooded about 70cm, vehicles are not allowed to pass through the area.

Due to the impact of storm No. 4, prolonged heavy rain for many days caused the Km15 Deo But slope area, the border section between Quang Hanh and Ha Tu wards, to be deeply flooded.

At times, the water level at the deepest flooded location exceeded 1m, disrupting traffic on National Highway 18.

From 12:00 on August 23, the Traffic Police force of Quang Ninh Provincial Police erected barricades, temporarily stopped vehicles from passing through the area; and at the same time guided people and vehicles to turn around and move in other directions to ensure safety.

According to Quang Hanh Ward People's Committee, the forced flood control pumping system at Deo But is operating at full capacity, with a total capacity of about 18,000m3/hour.

The locality also mobilized additional temporary pumps, opened sewer gates, and cleared ditches and ditches to increase drainage capacity.

By 10:30 am on August 24, the water level at the flooded point had decreased by about 40cm compared to the previous time, currently about 70cm. However, the water receded slowly because this is a low-lying area, receiving a large amount of water from the surrounding basin.

Directly present at the flooded point of Deo But Pass, Mr. Nguyen Tien Phong - Chairman of Quang Hanh Ward People's Committee - said that although the rain has stopped, water from surrounding areas continues to pour in, so the water level is receding quite slowly. The Ward People's Committee has requested forces to maintain duty at key locations, determine not to be subjective to weather diễn biến; only restore traffic through the area when the water level recedes to a safe level.

Deo But Pass is located on National Highway 18, one of the important traffic points connecting the Mekong Delta region with the East of Quang Ninh province. Therefore, the flooding situation here greatly affects travel and transportation of goods on the province's main traffic route.
