According to Lao Cai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, through monitoring satellite images, lightning positioning data and weather radar, in the past 3 hours, convective cloud areas have developed, causing showers and thunderstorms in some villages, hamlets, and residential groups in A Mu Sung, Che Tao, Den Sang and Trinh Tuong communes.
Notably, the developing convective cloud areas over Lai Chau and Son La regions tend to move towards Lao Cai, with a maximum radar response of about 30 dBZ.
According to the news bulletin broadcast on the morning of August 17, in the next few hours, convective cloud areas will continue to develop and move, causing showers, scattered thunderstorms with strong winds in the above-mentioned areas, then it is likely to spread to many other localities in Lao Cai province.

The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. These phenomena can break trees, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure, and threaten people's lives.
The level of natural disaster risk due to tornadoes, lightning, and hail is determined at level 1.
Lao Cai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station requests agencies, units and people to regularly monitor weather developments, proactively take preventive measures, limit going out when there is thunderstorms and find safe shelter when tornadoes, lightning, hail or strong gusts of wind appear.
