The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just sent a document to relevant units regarding the work of overcoming the road surface subsidence incident in the above-mentioned area.
According to a report by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center, during the drilling and survey of Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section), the construction unit punctured the D900 cover culvert and the 2x2m box culvert, causing road surface subsidence at the Pho Duc Chinh - Ham Nghi intersection (Ben Thanh ward).
Currently, the investor has just completed the repair of the D900 covering culvert line.
However, the damaged location at the 2x2m box culvert has not been treated, causing wastewater to continue to leak into the surrounding area. This situation is assessed as potentially causing further road subsidence in the near future.
Faced with the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction requested the investor to urgently complete the repair of the entire drilled puncture point at the 2x2m box culvert line, ensuring the safety of the drainage system and stabilizing the traffic infrastructure in the area. The completion deadline is set before May 30, 2026.
After completing the repair, the investor must coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center and related units to inspect, accept and confirm the implementation results.
The Department of Construction also said that in case the investor continues to delay or does not properly implement the remedial requirements, the unit will report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to consider responsibility in the process of coordination and project implementation.
The Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro line started construction on April 29 with a total investment of more than 36,700 billion VND, implemented under the BT (build - transfer) contract.
The project is about 6.2 km long, completely underground and includes 6 stations: Ben Thanh, Ham Nghi, To Huu, Children's Palace, International Hospital, Binh Khanh and Thu Thiem central station.
In which, Ham Nghi station has a depth of about 33 m, and the Saigon River tunnel section reaches about 41 m, considered the area with the largest depth in the metro system in Ho Chi Minh City today.
Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro is expected to be completed in 2030, connecting the existing central area with the new Thu Thiem urban area, and also interconnected with strategic traffic routes such as the North - South high-speed railway and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line.
