Recorded on April 28, preparations at the commencement area have been basically completed. Construction machinery and equipment are gathered at the land area at the corner of Nguyen Co Thach - Mai Chi Tho street (An Khanh ward, Thu Thiem New Urban Area), ready to be deployed immediately after the commencement ceremony.

Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro is a section of Metro Line No. 2 (Cu Chi - Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem axis, total length of more than 62 km), invested in PPP form, BT contract.
The investor is Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company (under Thaco Group), with the goal of completing the entire route by 2030.
The route is about 6 km long, completely underground, starting from Ben Thanh station, running along the Ham Nghi axis, crossing the Saigon River to Thu Thiem urban area, then continuing along Mai Chi Tho street to Thu Thiem station.
The entire route has 6 underground stations, including: Ham Nghi, To Huu, Children's Palace, International Hospital, Binh Khanh and Thu Thiem.

According to the plan, Metro Line 2 plays an important central axis, connecting the Northwest - center - East of Ho Chi Minh City, and at the same time creating a transshipment point at Ben Thanh station - which is considered the "super station" of the entire metro network.
Here, Metro Line No. 2 will connect with Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) and other lines in the future, forming the largest transshipment center of the Ho Chi Minh City urban railway system.
Currently, Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section) has started construction in mid-January 2026, expected to be completed in 2030. The Tham Luong - Cu Chi section is being called for investment by Ho Chi Minh City in the period 2026 - 2030.
When the entire route is completed, passengers from Tham Luong, Cu Chi, District 12 (old) areas can travel to Thu Thiem with just one transfer at Ben Thanh, helping to reduce pressure on roads that are already overloaded.
The formation of the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro line is assessed to create strong momentum for urban development in the East, especially the Thu Thiem New Urban Area - which is oriented to become a new financial, commercial and administrative center of Ho Chi Minh City.
This metro line is also the foundation for developing the TOD model (public transport-oriented urban area), effectively exploiting land funds around stations, especially the area on both banks of the Saigon River and large vacant land areas in Thu Thiem.

Metro No. 2 is also identified as an important part of the urban railway traffic corridor connecting Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport.
The Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section will help connect the Tan Son Nhat area with the city center, while the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section plays the role of a gateway connecting to railway lines towards Long Thanh airport.
The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh urban railway line, about 42 km long, is expected to start construction in June 2026 and be completed in 2030, creating a direct connection axis from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport.
