An Khanh Ward People's Committee (HCMC) is organizing to collect people's opinions on the dossier of local adjustment of zoning planning at a scale of 1/2000 - Sub-zone No. 1 (belonging to areas 3, 4 and related areas in Thu Thiem New Urban Area).
A noteworthy point in this adjustment is the change of direction of Metro Line No. 7. According to the new plan, Metro Line No. 7 will no longer travel along Tran Bach Dang street as before but will move underground along To Huu and Bui Thien Ngo streets.
From Thu Thiem 4 bridge, Metro Line No. 7 will go underground along Bui Thien Ngo street, continue along To Huu street, then merge into Tran Nao street.
The new route direction helps Metro Line 7 directly access the new Political - Administrative Center of Ho Chi Minh City, expected to be built in Thu Thiem with a scale of about 7.84 ha, the front is located on the To Huu axis.
According to the previous plan, Metro Line 7 is about 51.23 km long, of which 16.5 km is underground and 34.73 km is elevated. The line is expected to have 34 stations (12 underground stations, 22 elevated stations), using depots at Tan Kien and Long Truong. The section passing through Thu Thiem will arrange about 6 stations.
The route has a route from Tan Kien station, passing through Nguyen Van Linh, South city area, Phu My Hung, Huynh Tan Phat, Tran Nao, Thao Dien, Thanh Da, Truong Tho, Hi-Tech Park and ending at Vinhomes Grand Park.
A joint venture of investors recently proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to allow the deployment of Metro Line No. 7 in the form of public-private partnership (PPP). According to the proposal, the investment dossier will be completed in June 2026, and it is committed to ensuring equity and mobilizing other legal capital sources.
Besides Metro Line No. 7, the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro line (belonging to Metro Line No. 2) is also planned to go underground entirely through Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
The route is nearly 6 km long, with a total investment of about 33,000 billion VND. The route direction starts from Ben Thanh area, follows Ham Nghi road, crosses the Saigon River, then cuts through the Tran Bach Dang and To Huu axes, then runs along Mai Chi Tho Avenue to Thu Thiem station.
Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating procedures to start the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro project in April 2026, to be completed before 2030.
Notably, the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro line will intersect with Metro Line 7 in the To Huu street area, right in front of the new Political - Administrative Center.
