The above information was stated by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction in a report sent to the Ministry of Construction on the implementation of urban railway projects in the area.
According to the Department of Construction, the urban railway system connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh International Airport is oriented to form through 3 main axes.
Axis 1: Metro line No. 2 - Thu Thiem - Long Thanh
The first axis is Tan Son Nhat - Tham Luong - Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem - Long Thanh. This axis passes through Metro Line 2 and Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line.
Currently, Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section) nearly 11.27km long, with a total investment of more than 55,000 billion VND, has started construction on January 15, 2026, and is expected to be completed in 2030.
For the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section of Metro Line 2, Ho Chi Minh City has assigned Truong Hai Group (Thaco) to organize the preparation of a feasibility study report in the form of PPP, BT contract.
The route is 5.58 km long, including 6 underground stations, with a preliminary total investment of about 33,000 billion VND; expected to start construction before April 30, 2026 and be completed in 2030.

The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line has been allowed by the Prime Minister to be converted into an urban railway line, and at the same time assigned Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province to update it into relevant plans.
The People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City and the People's Council of Dong Nai province have agreed to assign the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City as the competent authority to implement the project.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council has also issued a resolution to add this route to the appendix list of Resolution 188 of the National Assembly, creating a legal basis to accelerate investment preparation progress.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is considering assigning Thaco to study and implement the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route in the form of PPP (BT contract), with the goal of starting construction before June 30, 2026 and completing it in 2030.
Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line is about 42 km long, designed with double tracks, gauge 1.435 mm, design speed 120 km/h, including 20 stations (16 elevated stations, 4 underground stations). Preliminary total investment is about 84,753 billion VND.
Axis 2: Metro line No. 6 - Metro line No. 1 extends to Dong Nai
The second connecting axis includes Metro Line No. 6 and extending Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) to the Dong Nai Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh International Airport.
Ho Chi Minh City prioritizes investing in phase 1 of Metro Line No. 6 (section from Tan Son Nhat airport - Phu Huu) to strengthen connectivity between Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport. The expected schedule for commencement and completion is in the period 2026 - 2030.
For the Metro No. 1 extended project through Dong Nai province, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee has assigned the DonaCoop and Vinacapital consortium to prepare project proposal dossiers in PPP form. The route is expected to be about 38.5 km long.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council has agreed to add the extended Metro Line No. 1 project to the list under Resolution 188 of the National Assembly. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and the Dong Nai Provincial People's Council also agreed to assign the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the project.
The preliminary total investment of the project is over 60,000 billion VND, the expected implementation progress is in the period 2026 - 2030.
Axis 3: Connecting Metro Line 6 with Thu Thiem - Long Thanh
The third axis is the line connecting Metro Line 6 with the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh line at Phu Huu station.
This will be an important link to help connect the network, creating more choices to travel from the inner city of Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport by urban railway.
