On December 28, Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1) said that from December 22 to December 27, Metro Line No. 1 ran 1,140 trips, carrying more than 531,000 passengers, far exceeding the original plan.
Although Metro Line 1 was interrupted in the evening of December 27 due to heavy rain and lightning, the number of passengers still reached 64,160 during the day.
Due to the large number of Metro passengers, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Youth Volunteer Force to organize a temporary parking lot at Area A of September 23 Park (District 1) to serve train passengers at Ben Thanh Station.
At the same time, Urban Railway Company No. 1 coordinated with the Urban Railway Board, the Youth Union, the Technical Infrastructure Management Center and the People's Committee of District 1 to determine the location and scale to deploy a parking lot suitable to the actual situation.
Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, starting operation from December 22, 2024. In the first month, people will be exempted from paying for tickets.
From January 21, 2025, Metro Line 1 will officially collect fees from 6,000 to 20,000 VND/trip, depending on the distance.
Monthly tickets for regular customers cost 300,000 VND, while students only need to pay 150,000 VND.
In addition, unlimited travel tickets for 1 day or 3 days cost 40,000 VND and 90,000 VND respectively.
Metro Line 1 is expected to change the travel habits of Ho Chi Minh City residents, contributing to reducing road traffic and environmental pollution.
