MINH QUÂN |

On the evening of December 31, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced 10 outstanding milestones in 2024, in which the official operation of Metro Line 1 is an important highlight.

In the field of transportation and urban areas, Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) is the first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City to officially operate commercially since December 22.

This is the first step in building an urban railway network, contributing to the modernization of the public transport system.

This railway line is 19.7km long, connecting the center of District 1 with the Eastern area, passing through Binh Thanh District, Thu Duc City and ending at Suoi Tien Bus Station.

With its large transport capacity, Metro Line 1 is expected to reduce road traffic pressure while bringing a modern and convenient experience to city residents.

During 9 days of operation (December 22 - December 30), Metro Line 1 operated 1,762 trains, serving nearly 998,000 passengers.

In particular, the two weekends (December 28 and 29) recorded a sharp increase in the number of visitors, with 175,000 visitors on Saturday and nearly 201,000 visitors on Sunday.

Currently, this Metro line is still free for passengers until January 20, 2025, after which tickets will be implemented by trip, day, and month.

In addition to Metro Line 1, 2024 will also witness many major transport projects starting or restarting after a long period of stagnation.

Nam Ly Bridge, Cay Kho Bridge and Phan Thuc Duyen underpass have been completed and put into use, relieving traffic congestion in key areas.

The underpass at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection has contributed to improving traffic circulation in the southern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City.

In particular, the city has approved a resolution to adjust the investment policy for the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal renovation project, with a total capital of more than 9,000 billion VND.

This project not only helps prevent flooding for about 14,900 hectares but also solves environmental pollution, creating a traffic corridor connecting Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Long An, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai.

9 other outstanding highlights of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 include:

- General Secretary To Lam and senior leaders of the Party and State worked with Ho Chi Minh City to direct the resolution of important issues of Ho Chi Minh City.

- Ho Chi Minh City people show the beauty of the city of love and the spirit of great national unity.
