Recorded in the early days of the new year 2026, the construction site of the Nguyen Thi Dinh road upgrade and expansion project (section from Giong Ong To bridge to My Thuy intersection) is still bustling with machinery sounds and workers' shadows. To ensure the completion milestone in 2026, sidewalk construction items are being prioritized by contractors to accelerate.

Busily paving sidewalks in the sun of the first day of the year, Mr. Chau Ngoc Thuong (45 years old) shared: "Although I am on New Year's Day holiday, I still asked to go to the construction site to work to keep up with the project progress.

The road, worth more than 2,000 billion VND, with a length of nearly 2 km, officially started construction on April 26, 2025. In the capital structure, compensation and site clearance (GPMB) costs account for the largest proportion with more than 1,781 billion VND, while construction and installation costs are about 253.91 billion VND. After completion, the road will be 30 m wide for 6 lanes, sidewalks on each side 4.5 m wide and synchronous technical infrastructure system.

Currently, the project is being implemented according to the motto "as the ground is clear, construction is done there". According to records, the section near My Thuy intersection has basically formed a new appearance with the completion of paving the sidewalk with stone and temporarily paving a median lane with asphalt to serve traffic.

However, construction work still faces many obstacles because the ground has not been completely handed over. A few houses have not been cleared, causing the construction site to still have large drainage culverts placed scattered near the roadside.

Mr. Hoang Minh Son - owner of a coffee shop on the route - is urgently repairing the ground with his family after retrograding the project to hand over to the project. "Although business is affected, I hope the project will be completed soon so that the roads are clear and people can trade more conveniently," Mr. Son expressed.
Besides the expectation of a modern traffic axis, people along the route are also facing many inconveniences. Due to "rolling" construction, soil, rocks and construction materials are still scattered.

On hot sunny days, motorbikes continuously enter and exit, causing dust to fly white all over the residential area. Many households have to close their doors and spray water in front of their houses many times a day to reduce pollution.
People want the construction unit to increase watering and cover materials more thoroughly in the coming time.

The Nguyen Thi Dinh road expansion project has been approved in principle by Ho Chi Minh City 10 years ago, but the biggest obstacle is the compensation stage. By 2023, the project has been adjusted and updated to the actual situation to unlock resources. When put into operation, this will be a major "boost" for cargo transportation in and out of Cat Lai port and promote the development of the Eastern Ho Chi Minh City economy.
