Starting tomorrow (July 9), the Martyrs' Remains Collection Team (Ho Chi Minh City Command) will officially expand the burial area at Le Thi Rieng Park to continue the exhumation and repatriation process.
According to information from the Team for Repatriating Martyrs' Remains under the Ho Chi Minh City Command, on July 8, at the scene in the Le Thi Rieng Park area, the task force temporarily stopped exhumation to concentrate 100% of personnel to deploy preparations for tomorrow.
The goal of this working day is to expand the current burial area, ensure technical and safety factors, thereby creating the most favorable conditions for the process of searching, exhuming and repatriating martyrs' remains in the coming days.
Thus, as of the present time, the total number of martyrs' remains found and collected in the Le Thi Rieng Park area is 11 remains.
The area undergoing exhumation at Le Thi Rieng Park has particularly important historical significance, once identified as having mass graves related to heroic martyrs who bravely sacrificed themselves in the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring Mau Than 1968.
The organization of the search here is the result of a long preparation process, combining the search for historical documents, witness accounts, map comparison, and no photos. In particular, from mid-June 2026, the forces have coordinated to apply modern technology such as surveying by radar through the ground and analyzing the stratigraphy in the area suspected of having grave trenches before conducting excavation.
Throughout the repatriation process, the Ho Chi Minh City Command and functional agencies always strictly follow professional procedures: from recording the scene, taking biological samples, preserving artifacts to preparing detailed records. These steps are aimed at serving the best for DNA testing, verifying and identifying martyrs later, bringing comfort to their relatives and families.
