The Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Quang Ngai province has just issued a plan to organize excavation, search and repatriation of martyrs' remains in the Truong Chinh street area of Dak Cam and Kon Tum wards.
According to the plan, the search work is implemented in 3 phases. The first phase focuses on excavating at vacant land in the grounds of the Dak Cam Ward Martyrs' Cemetery and surveying the Truong Chinh road section from house number 206 to house number 282.
The next phase will expand the excavation scope on the remaining sections of Truong Chinh road located in the suspected area. The final phase lasts until the end of 2026, focusing on surveying and searching at new locations where information arises from people, veterans and functional agencies.
The Steering Committee requests that the implementation process must ensure the principle of caution, meticulousness, and deployment to the extent of certainty, while ensuring absolute safety for people, vehicles, technical infrastructure, security and order, and traffic.
Participating in performing the task are the Provincial Military Command, Provincial Police, relevant departments and branches, local authorities and technical infrastructure management units. In which, the Provincial Military Command plays the leading and operating role, while Team K53 directly performs surveying, excavating and repatriating martyrs' remains according to professional procedures.
Before conducting excavations in suspected areas, functional forces will carry out bomb and mine clearance, explosives, survey the underground technical infrastructure system and organize traffic diversion. After completing the task, the site will be restored to its original state, ensuring technical quality and urban aesthetics.
According to the Provincial Steering Committee, the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains is of profound humanitarian significance, contributing to clarifying information about the resting place of heroic martyrs, meeting the aspirations of relatives and people, and continuing to promote the tradition of "Drinking water, remembering the source", "Gratitude".
Over the past time, Team K53 has been digging survey trenches along Truong Chinh street and within the grounds of Dak Cam Ward Martyrs' Cemetery. More than 1,000m3 of soil has been stripped to serve exploration and identification of locations that may be related to the martyr burial area.
According to the plan, Team K53 will continue to dig 4 survey trenches at locations in front of houses No. 230, 242, 278 Truong Chinh street and the area in front of the auxiliary gate of Dak Cam Ward Martyrs' Cemetery. The survey aims to accurately determine the location of graves through analyzing soil quality and signs related to martyrs who sacrificed in the General Offensive and Uprising of Tet Mau Than 1968.
