On June 16, Vietnam Airlines flight VN158 from Da Nang to Hanoi had to divert to land at Phu Bai airport (Hue) this morning to promptly rescue a female passenger with health problems.
After about 5 minutes of takeoff, passenger T.T.P.D (25 years old, Vietnamese nationality), sitting in seat 11B, suddenly showed signs of abnormal health. The crew immediately played a loudspeaker to call for support from doctors and medical staff who volunteered to be on the flight. At the same time, the flight attendants performed first aid and provided oxygen to the passengers.
However, the health of passengers did not improve. The captain quickly contacted the Vietnam Airlines operations center and informed the ground department at Phu Bai airport (Hue) to prepare vehicles and human resources for emergency care. Immediately afterwards, the flight was diverted to land at Phu Bai airport to ensure passengers received timely medical support.
After landing, the passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment, accompanied by relatives and representatives of Vietnam Airlines.
Flight VN158 completed the necessary procedures and continued its journey to Hanoi at 09:10 on the same day, about an hour later than planned.
Although adjusting routes creates additional costs related to fuel, ground services and flight schedules, Vietnam Airlines affirms that the safety and health of passengers are always a top priority in all situations.
Previously, Vietnam Airlines had flexibly changed routes many times to support passengers in need of medical assistance. Most recently, on May 5, 2025, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt (Germany) made an emergency landing at Erzurum Airport (Türkiye) to rescue a passenger. In January 2025, flight VN1602 from Buon Ma Thuot to Hanoi also changed direction to land at Da Nang airport for the same reason.
