At about 5 pm on April 18, in some highland communes of Son La province, hail and thunderstorms appeared.
In Phieng Cam commune, Nong Tau Thai, Nong Tau Mong, Pa Hoc, Co Hinh villages recorded heavy hail in a short time. Many areas of crops were affected, especially coffee on the hills.


Mr. Lang A Lenh, Co Hinh village, said: "I was weeding on the coffee fields when stone rain poured down torrentially. Stones fell thickly, after the rain, the remaining stone was white all over the ground.

Mr. Dang Tien Dung - Chairman of Phieng Cam Commune People's Committee, informed that the rain lasted about 10-15 minutes but the density of rocks falling was very high, accompanied by strong winds, and many areas were covered with rocks.
In Na Ot commune, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms caused trees to fall across National Highway 4G, the section passing through Ot Cha village, causing local congestion.

In addition, Chieng Khuong, Muong Hung and Song Ma communes also recorded hail and thunderstorms causing roadside trees to fall, affecting the area of longan that is in the fruit-bearing period.

Currently, local authorities are urgently reviewing and statistically analyzing damage to have plans to support people.
