Heavy rain turns many streets of Lang Son into rivers, cars stuck

Khánh Linh |

Lang Son - Heavy rain on the afternoon of August 1st caused many central streets to be deeply flooded, cars to stall, and green trees to fall.

In the late afternoon of August 1st, heavy rain accompanied by strong gusts of wind occurred in the former Lang Son city area (including Dong Kinh, Ky Lua, Luong Van Tri and Tam Thanh wards), causing flooding on many roads, seriously affecting people's travel and daily life.

According to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, deep flooding points appeared on Ngo Quyen, Ly Thuong Kiet, Le Loi, Tran Phu, Bong Lau, Tran Dang Ninh, Ba Trieu streets and the railway underpass area.

Muddy rainwater covered the road surface. At some low-lying locations, water rose to almost completely flood the wheels, causing many vehicles to stop or turn around to find another direction. Some drivers tried to drive their cars through deep water but the vehicles stalled and got stuck in the middle of the road.

The railway underpass area in Dong Kinh ward is one of the serious flooding points. Rising water has prevented vehicles from moving through, functional forces have to stretch ropes, set up barriers and guide people to follow other routes.

On flooded streets, many people stand from high areas to observe the situation, waiting for the water to recede before continuing to move.

A resident in the flooded area said that heavy rain only lasted for a short time, but the water rose very quickly, making people unable to react in time.

Initially, the water only overflowed onto the road surface, but then it rose quickly, many vehicles could not move in time. People could only stand and wait for functional forces to support," Ms. Hoang Thi Nhu (in Dong Kinh ward) shared.

According to people, the flooding situation not only causes difficulties for traffic but also disrupts daily life, posing a risk of damage to vehicles and property.

Heavy rain accompanied by gusts of wind also caused green trees to be broken and fallen on some roads, causing traffic obstruction and threatening the safety of pedestrians. The slippery road surface and limited visibility make traffic even more difficult.

By the evening of the same day, many central roads of Lang Son province were still deeply flooded, with some places "transforming into rivers". People had to move slowly, continuously searching for directions or turning around when encountering points with too high floodwater.

Faced with flooding occurring after heavy rain, people hope that functional agencies will review and upgrade the infrastructure system and drainage capacity in areas that are frequently flooded.

We hope that the drainage system and ditches will be renovated and upgraded soon. Every time it rains heavily, the water rises too quickly, travel is very dangerous and people's property is also at risk of being affected," Ms. Trieu Hai Yen said.

To ensure safety, functional forces have arranged on-duty personnel, erected barriers at deep flooded points, diverted traffic and organized the clearing of sewers to speed up the drainage process.

Functional agencies recommend that people not drive vehicles through deeply flooded areas, fast-flowing water or locations at risk of landslides; limit going out when not really necessary during heavy rain.

When participating in traffic, people need to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance, turn on headlights and comply with the instructions of the task force.
