Heavy rain, temporary bridge in Nghe An border commune swept away

QUANG ĐẠI |

Nghe An - Prolonged heavy rain, the Nam Non River rises high and flows fast, sweeping away the Yen Hoa temporary bridge - the only entrance to the people of Yen Hoa village, My Ly commune.

On August 8, Mr. Luong Van Bay - Chairman of My Ly Commune People's Committee, Nghe An province said that the Yen Hoa temporary bridge across the Nam Non River was just swept away by floodwaters.

According to Mr. Bay, from August 3rd to 7th, there were continuous heavy rains in My Ly commune, along with a large amount of water from upstream pouring in, causing the water level of the Nam Non River to rise.

Previously, when the river water rose and flooded, damaging the temporary bridge, local authorities organized forces to be on duty, put up warning signs, and prevent people and vehicles from crossing the bridge to ensure safety.

By the end of August 7, water from upstream continued to pour in, the Nam Non River rose, and the strong current swept away the Yen Hoa temporary bridge.

Mr. Bay said that Yen Hoa temporary bridge is the only entrance for people in the Yen Hoa village area. After the bridge was swept away, people's travel encountered many difficulties.

The commune government has arranged waterway vehicles to support people to cross the river in truly necessary cases. However, due to the large river water and strong currents, the locality recommends that people limit crossing the river to ensure safety.

We only arrange support vehicles for people who really need work or are sick. At this time, traveling by boat on the river also poses many dangers" - Mr. Bay said.

According to the Chairman of My Ly Commune People's Committee, Yen Hoa village is implementing a resettlement area project to stabilize the lives of households who lost their homes due to floods in 2025. Prolonged rain and the temporary bridge being swept away are causing many difficulties for travel and project implementation.

Immediately after the temporary bridge was swept away, My Ly Commune People's Committee contacted and requested the Nghe An Traffic Works Project Management Board and the Department of Construction to support the remediation.

On August 8, the rain stopped. When the weather stabilizes and the flow is safe, we hope the temporary bridge frame will be salvaged and restored to soon restore traffic to Yen Hoa village" - Mr. Bay informed.
