From the night of June 16 to the evening of June 17, the wind convergence zone operated strongly, causing moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms in the locality, with very heavy rain in some places.
Rainfall in Son La is commonly 30-100mm, in some places it is over 150mm. The areas of Quynh Nhai, Muong La, Song Ma, Sop Cop, and Thuan Chau are forecast to have 50-100mm of rain; To Hieu, Mai Son, Yen Chau 40-80mm; Bac Yen, Phu Yen, Moc Chau, Van Ho 30-60mm.
Son La meteorological agency warns of the risk of localized heavy rain with high intensity, over 80mm in 3 hours.
In thunderstorms, there may be tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
In Lao Cai, the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station forecasts that from the evening of June 14 to the morning of June 16, the locality will have moderate rain, widespread heavy rain, locally very heavy rain over 120mm.
The reason is that the low pressure trough is compressed by the northern continental high pressure, combined with a wind convergence zone at an altitude of about 5,000m.

Common rainfall in Lao Cai, Bat Xat, Sa Pa, Bac Ha, Muong Khuong, Si Ma Cai, Van Ban, Bao Yen, Bao Thang and many neighboring areas ranges from 40-70mm, with some places exceeding 120mm. The risk of landslides in hilly areas, slopes, along rivers and streams is warned at a high level.
In Cao Bang, according to the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, on the night of June 15 and the day of June 16, the weather in the areas will be cloudy, with showers, in some places moderate rain, heavy rain; locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms. The day will be intermittently sunny, Southeast wind level 2.
Recorded in the afternoon of June 15 in Lang Son, thunderstorms have poured down on many areas in the province. Dark clouds came quickly, accompanied by localized heavy rain, causing visibility on some roads to decrease, making it difficult for people to move in the afternoon.
On the same day, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued warnings of flash floods, landslides, and subsidence due to rain and floods or currents in Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang and Lang Son.
During 2 hours, from 13:00 to 15:00 on June 15, many places in these provinces had heavy to very heavy rain. Rainfall recorded in Quang Nguyen and Tuyen Quang is 56mm; Hao Nghia, Thai Nguyen 40.4mm; Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang 44.5mm; Loi Bac, Lang Son 35.8mm.
The soil moisture model shows that some areas have nearly saturated, over 85%, or reached saturation status. In the next 3-6 hours, the above area will continue to have rain, the accumulated amount is commonly 20-50mm, in some places over 80mm.
The meteorological agency warns that flash floods may occur on small rivers and streams; landslides on slopes in many communes and wards. Natural disaster risks due to flash floods, landslides, and subsidence at level 1.
People are advised to limit crossing underground spillways, streams, and steep slopes when it rains heavily; localities need to review areas at risk of flash floods, landslides, and flooding to proactively respond.
