In the afternoon of August 9th, information from the People's Committee of Thuong Ha commune, Lao Cai province, said that a landslide had just occurred in the area, damaging houses of people in Dien Quang village.
Accordingly, at about 10 am on August 8, after many days of prolonged heavy rain, soil and rocks from the hill behind suddenly slid down, buried and collapsed part of Mr. Ban Tien Loi's family's house.
Before the incident occurred, people discovered many unusual cracks on the hillside, so they helped Mr. Loi's family move 4 people and valuable assets out of the dangerous area. Thanks to that, the landslide did not cause any casualties.
At the scene, a large amount of soil and rocks from the positive slope behind the house spilled down, burying part of the construction. The house walls were collapsed, the roof and doors were damaged, and many items inside were buried and damaged by mud and rocks.
As of August 9, the landslide area still showed signs of soil and rocks continuing to slide down, posing a potential risk of unsafety. Local authorities have stretched ropes and planted warning signs to prevent people from accessing the scene.
Local authorities recommend that households living near hillsides and positive slopes regularly monitor weather developments and promptly notify when detecting signs such as soil cracks, subsidence or rocks and soil at risk of sliding.
