Floods, landslides bury houses in Gia Lai

Gia Lai - Rocks and soil from the mountain slid down to a house, burying a couple. Currently, the authorities have rescued 1 person safely, the remaining person has not been able to reach him.

On November 19, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Huu Khuc - Secretary of the Party Committee of Quy Nhon Ward (Gia Lai) - said that until noon of the same day, the authorities were still trying to rescue a person trapped in a landslide that collapsed a house in the area.

According to initial information, the landslide in Hai Minh area occurred at 3:00 a.m. the same day, causing the landslide to completely collapse a house, burying a couple.

"This morning, the rescue team brought an old man out safely, while the old woman was still trapped inside, with unknown casualties. The forces are still focusing on the rescue," Mr. Khuc informed.

At One Mountain, the landslide started at around 2:15 am and continued. Soil and rocks continue to overflow into the foot of the mountain in Quarter 57, endangering people.

Local authorities have set up ropes and warning signs to prevent people from entering dangerous areas. Previously, the ward proactively evacuated 35 households living along the foot of the mountain to safe places.

There are still 3 locations in Quy Nhon ward with high risk of landslides. The authorities have " 100% evacuated people" at these locations to ensure maximum safety.

The authorities are still on duty at the scene, monitoring geological developments and preparing response plans in case landslides continue to occur.
