
According to a quick report from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Nghe An province, due to the impact of storm No. 3 and the storm's circulation, the whole province has recorded prolonged heavy rain with common rainfall from 100 - 200mm, some places up to 350mm such as Nong Truong 1/5, Chau Nga, Chau Thuan and Muong Long. Heavy rain caused flooding, landslides and disrupted traffic in many areas.
Floods have injured 1 person in Yen Thanh commune and one person is missing due to being swept away by water in Huoi Yen stream, Huoi Phoc village, Nam Can commune. Local authorities are coordinating with authorities and the victim's family to organize the search.
Regarding housing, the whole province recorded 161 houses affected by floods, of which 48 houses were deeply flooded, mainly concentrated in Chau Binh, Nghia Hung and Nhon Mai communes. In addition, 305 households in mountainous communes have been evacuated to safe places to prevent the risk of landslides and flash floods.
Floods also caused severe damage to agricultural production. Nearly 175 hectares of rice, 286 hectares of rice fields and more than 437 hectares of vegetables were affected. In addition, annual and perennial crops were also destroyed, including 17.3 hectares of fruit trees and 264.8 hectares of forest broken. In the livestock sector, floods caused 2 cattle and 226 poultry to die and be swept away. The damaged aquaculture area is about 24.8 hectares, mainly small ponds.
In particular, the province has more than 4,000 cages, fish rafts and 4,000 canh chung on rivers and seas - all of which were urgently evacuated before the storm made landfall, contributing to limiting damage and ensuring safety for people.
Heavy rain caused landslides at 45 slopes on national highways and provincial roads, causing flooding at 16 locations, causing local traffic congestion in many places. Local roads recorded 29 landslides and 27 deep flooding points, with a total estimated landslide length of 75m, the amount of rock and soil spilled down was about 7,170m3.
In addition, the technical infrastructure system was also significantly affected: 30 electric poles were broken, a cluster of loudspeakers was damaged, a welcome gate collapsed and many production equipment such as pumps, tractors, and rice thresters were swept away by water.
Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has directed localities to continue reviewing high-risk residential areas to evacuate people to safety. Responsive work is being implemented with the "four on-site" motto, focusing on overcoming landslides, ensuring traffic flow and supporting people to restore production.
At the same time, functional forces, the army, border guards, police... were also mobilized to rescue and support people in severely affected areas. The provincial Hydrometeorological Station continues to closely monitor the weather situation, ensuring timely information for response instructions.
