On the morning of September 12, the Da Nang City Sub-Department of Water Resources and Irrigation Management said that many areas in the area are experiencing moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places.
From 7 pm on September 11 to 5 am on September 12, common rainfall was from 50-200mm. Some areas recorded heavy rainfall such as Tam Lanh 219mm, Tam Tra 210mm, Nuoc Ron Lake 170mm.
Forecast from the morning of September 12 to the morning of September 14, Da Nang will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, in some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms, total rainfall commonly 120-250mm, in some places over 350mm. The northwest area of the city is commonly 80-180mm, in some places over 250mm.
Functional agencies warn of the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams in mountainous areas; landslides and subsidence in many communes and wards. Low-lying areas and urban areas are also at risk of flooding if heavy rain continues.
Notably, at 11:00 AM on September 12, Dak Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company announced the start of operating Dak Mi 4 hydropower reservoir to reduce floods for downstream areas.
According to the announcement, at 11 am, the water level of Dak Mi 4 reservoir was at an elevation of 242.4m, the water inflow to the reservoir reached 737m3/s. The reservoir has not discharged water through the spillway and the flow through the generating unit is 0. Because the reservoir water level is still lower than the lowest flood reception water level by 251.5m, the operating unit has not regulated water through the spillway.
Dak Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company said it will continue to monitor water flow to the reservoir, water level and weather diễn biến to switch to a suitable operating mode, and at the same time requested localities to proactively deploy plans to respond to natural disasters, floods and inundation.
Meanwhile, early in the morning of the same day, the low pressure area in the sea area southwest of the Hoang Sa special zone strengthened into a tropical depression. It is forecasted that by 4 am on September 13, the center of the tropical depression will be in the sea area from Hue City to Da Nang City, about 120km east-northeast of Da Nang, with strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8.
Currently, the water level at hydrological stations in Da Nang is still below alarm level I. The City Civil Defense Command requests localities, departments, and branches to closely monitor the developments of rain and floods, operate safely reservoirs and be ready with response plans in high-risk areas.
