On September 22, Tri An Hydropower Company (Vinh Cuu District, Dong Nai Province) announced that it would release water through the spillway from 10:00 a.m. on September 23. This is the first time in 2024 that Tri An Hydropower Company has released flood water through the spillway.
Accordingly, at 6:00 a.m. on September 22, the upstream water level of the lake reached 60.4m, the downstream water level after the factory reached 4.3m. The amount of water passing through the power turbine was 815m3/s, while the water flow into the lake was up to 2,000m3/s.
As of 1:00 p.m. on September 22, the water level of Tri An Lake had reached over 60.5m (safe elevation is 62m).
Tri An Hydropower Company informs the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue at all levels, local authorities and relevant units to direct, coordinate and notify people in the downstream area of the reservoir to proactively take preventive measures to avoid possible damage.
On September 22, according to Dong Nai Hydrometeorological Station, the water level of rivers and streams in the Dong Nai river system is high, posing a risk of flooding low-lying areas along rivers and streams, adversely affecting water transport and aquaculture activities.
At 1:00 p.m. on September 22, the water level at Ta Lai station (upstream of Dong Nai river) reached 112.71m (0.21m above alarm level 2); Phu Hiep station (La Nga river) reached 105.28m (0.78m above alarm level).
At Bien Hoa station (downstream of Dong Nai river), the peak tide on the morning of September 22 reached 1.95m (above alert level 1 and close to alert level 2).
Low-lying areas along the Dong Nai River in the communes of Dac Lua, Nam Cat Tien, Nui Tuong, Ta Lai, Phu Thinh (Tan Phu district); Thanh Son, Phu Vinh, Phu Tan, Ngoc Dinh (Dinh Quan district); low-lying areas along the La Nga River in the communes of Tan Phu, Dinh Quan districts; Tanh Linh and Duc Linh districts (Binh Thuan province) are at risk of flooding.
Low-lying riverside areas in the downstream of the Dong Nai River in wards and communes of Bien Hoa city, Vinh Cuu, Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts (Dong Nai province); Bac Tan Uyen district, Tan Uyen town (Binh Duong province) and Thu Duc city (HCMC) are at risk of flooding due to floods (high tides in the downstream).
Tri An Hydropower Plant was inaugurated and put into operation in 1991. Currently, the plant has 4 units, with a total designed capacity of 400MW. This is the largest hydropower project in the Southern region, contributing greatly to the national grid, helping to regulate water sources for daily life, production, repelling salinity and regulating floods for downstream areas.
