According to Thanh Hoa province authorities, due to prolonged heavy rain, water from upstream has caused flooding, landslides, and damage in many localities such as Quan Son, Muong Lat, Quan Hoa, Yen Dinh...
Landslides in many locations
Muong Lat District People's Committee said that long-term heavy rain, especially the rain on the night of September 21, caused landslides in many places in the district.
On National Highway 15C (through Trung Ly, Nhi Son, Pu Nhi communes and Muong Lat town), there are many landslides, causing traffic congestion on the route.
On provincial road 521E (through Quang Chieu and Muong Chanh communes), there was a landslide, with rocks and soil flowing onto the road surface. At the overflow tunnels, the water level rose to nearly 1 meter in some places, isolating many villages.
In particular, in Muong Chanh and Quang Chieu communes, floodwaters from the upstream of the Lao border caused the water level in Xim stream to rise and flow rapidly, seriously flooding provincial road 521E, paralyzing traffic.
Faced with the above situation, Muong Lat district has propagated and mobilized people to evacuate 245 households, with 1,009 people in vulnerable areas at risk of landslides to safe places.
Heavy rain also caused a landslide in the dormitory area at Trung Ly Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities. Immediately after that, authorities urgently evacuated more than 200 students to safety.
