On June 1st, leaders of Bach Ngoc Commune People's Committee (Nghe An province) confirmed that a tragic drowning incident had just occurred in the area, killing a student.
According to local information, at about 5 pm on the same day, a group of students invited each other to the pumping station area in hamlet 2 to swim. While playing in the water, a 9th grade male student moved closer to the automatic discharge gate area of the project.
Here, the water flowing with great pressure created strong suction force, causing him to be trapped in the water pipe. Discovering the incident, his companions immediately called for help and asked people for rescue support.
Although he was taken out of the dangerous area afterwards, the victim did not survive.
According to the leader of Bach Ngoc commune, this pumping station is responsible for taking water from the Lam River to serve agricultural production. The system is designed with water pipes and spillway gates.
Previously, the discharge gate area had been installed with protective items to limit the risk of unsafety. However, during recent operation, the management unit dismantled the shield to serve regulation and lower water levels in the system.
Immediately after receiving the news, functional forces were present at the scene to handle the incident, and at the same time handed over the victim's body to the family for funeral arrangements.
From the above painful incident, local authorities recommend that parents strengthen the management of their children during summer vacation; do not let children arbitrarily swim in rivers, lakes, canals, pumping stations, irrigation works or areas at risk of unsafety to prevent unfortunate drowning accidents.
