Peak heat, Me So bridge project workers change shifts to maintain progress

BẠCH DƯƠNG |

Hanoi - Amidst the scorching hot weather, hundreds of engineers and workers at the Me So bridge construction site are accelerating construction to bring the project to completion on schedule.

At the Me So bridge construction site in the last days of May 2026, the construction atmosphere is taking place urgently throughout the route. Many construction fronts are simultaneously deployed both on the bank and under the river to speed up the progress of the Hong River overpass item under the Ring Road 4 Project - Hanoi Capital Region.

The project currently focuses on basically completing the foundation base of the main pier across the river, accelerating the construction of the pier body base, and at the same time accelerating beam casting and preparing to deploy span structure items.

These are key items to ensure the maintenance of the roadmap and meet construction requirements before the 2026 rainy and flood season.

Despite harsh weather conditions, to date, the output value implemented at Me So bridge has reached more than 750 billion VND, exceeding about 5% of the set plan.

To achieve this number, the contractor had to flexibly adjust working hours to protect workers' health.

Mr. Nguyen Tai Manh - Project Director cum Commander of package NS02.02 (Construction Corporation No. 1) said that the unit deployed construction from 6 am to about 10 am, then rested to avoid the sun and continued to work in the afternoon shift, and at the same time strengthened construction at night to limit the impact of hot sun.

We also arrange sufficient drinking water, sun protection equipment and necessary regimes to ensure the health of workers during work," Mr. Nguyen Tai Manh shared.

At pier V3 located in the middle of the fast flow of the Red River, the construction pressure is even greater as workers are both exposed to the effects of hot sun and face constant changes in water flow.

To ensure absolute safety and shorten construction time due to changes in flow pressure, contractor CC1 has deployed the construction of the shower box system and used hydraulic jacks to lower the shower box.

According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Thang - Bridge Engineer, in charge of supervising Me So Bridge, during the actual construction process, some technical measures had to be adjusted to suit the conditions of the site, both ensuring safety and meeting progress requirements.

Initially, the overall plan was to use piles and piles for construction. However, due to the urgent progress and changes in flow, the contractor and the supervision consultant proposed switching to the solution of using boxes to shorten the construction time," Mr. Pham Ngoc Thang said.

In the coming time, the Me So bridge project will continue to accelerate the construction of key items to ensure maintenance of progress, creating a premise for completing one of the key projects connecting transport infrastructure in the Capital region.
