Information from Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) said that on May 27, the power system in the Central and Central Highlands regions for the first time exceeded the milestone of 100 million kWh of electricity consumed in one day, setting the highest record ever.
According to Mr. Ngo Tan Cu, General Director of EVNCPC, the maximum capacity of the entire system reached 4,777 MW, while electricity consumption reached 100.5 million kWh/day. This is the highest level of EVNCPC to date and also a new milestone for the Central - Central Highlands power system.
Compared to the peak of 2025, maximum capacity increased by 6.1%, while electricity consumption increased by 5.7%. Compared to the same period last year, maximum capacity increased by 18.2%. Data shows that electricity demand in the region is increasing very rapidly in the context of harsh weather.
According to EVNCPC, the main reason is that the prolonged heat wave caused the demand for cooling equipment such as air conditioners and electric fans to increase sharply. On May 27, many localities recorded very high temperatures. Dong Ha (Quang Tri) reached 39.6 degrees C; Tam Ky (Quang Nam) 39.5 degrees C; Tuy Hoa (Phu Yen) 39.3 degrees C; Quang Ngai 39.2 degrees C. Some other places such as Nam Dong, Ba To, Son Hoa also recorded temperatures above 38 degrees C.
In particular, the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang City and the east of Quang Ngai and Dak Lak provinces experienced intense heat, especially intense in some places. Extreme weather caused electricity load to increase sharply during peak hours.
Faced with this situation, EVNCPC said it will continue to closely monitor load developments and proactively adjust system operation methods to ensure safe and stable power supply for people and businesses throughout the region.
The electricity industry also recommends that people use electricity sparingly, limit the use of many high-capacity devices during peak hours to reduce pressure on the power system during prolonged hot days.
