On October 18, the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station issued a flood warning bulletin in the area with a level 2 risk of natural disasters due to high tides.
According to the news, in the past 2 days, the water level on the rivers and canals of Can Tho City has risen due to the influence of floods from upstream combined with the high tide of the 15th day of the 9th lunar month.
The highest peak tide level on October 18 on the Hau River at Can Tho Hydrological Station Hmax at 4:30 a.m. was 2.20 m, exceeding BD III level by 0.20 m (0.03 m higher than the same period in 2023).
It is forecasted that the peak water level on rivers and canals in Can Tho City will continue to rise and is likely to reach its highest peak during this tide on October 19 and 20 (ie September 17 and 18 of the lunar calendar).
According to the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of the high tide of the 15th day of the 9th lunar month combined with the flood from upstream, the peak water level rose very high, exceeding the level of BD III (2.00m) by 0.18 - 0.28m (approximately the historical level of 2022 of 2.27m). In the following days of October 21, 22, 23, the peak water level remained high above the level of BD III. The time of the peak water level every day is early in the morning from 6am to 8am and in the evening from 4pm to 8pm.
Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station added that this is a high tide with a peak tide exceeding the third alarm level and approaching the historical level of 2022. It is necessary to pay attention to bad weather due to the influence of cold air from the Northeast monsoon, so during the days of high tide combined with heavy rain, it will cause widespread flooding in low-lying areas and inner-city areas along the river of the city.
