Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station Metro has welcomed more than 2 million passengers.
On November 9, the Hanoi People's Committee solemnly held a ceremony to put into commercial operation the elevated section of the Hanoi urban railway pilot line, Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station. The event marked an important milestone in the process of developing a modern, convenient urban transport network and aiming for a green future and sustainable development for the capital.
Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station Metro is an important project in urban transport planning, aiming to solve traffic pressure, reduce air pollution, and improve the quality of life of the capital's residents.
With a length of more than 12.5km, the 8.5km elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay has officially been put into commercial operation since 8:00 a.m. on August 8, 2024. According to Hanoi Metro (the operator - PV), after three months of commercial operation, the line has served more than 2 million passengers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Duc Tuan - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized that practice has proven that wherever the transport infrastructure is developed, new development space is formed, and land funds are effectively exploited. Urban railway is an important mode of transport, providing a high-quality public transport system, large transport capacity, stability, reliability, safety, and environmental friendliness.
"Many countries have been prioritizing the development of urban railways to solve problems of traffic congestion, accidents and reduce CO2 emissions into the environment, opening up space for socio-economic development. The development of urban railways in Hanoi is a key task, an inevitable part of the new development stage," said Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan.
Sharing at the ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Vietnam - Mr. Olivier BROCHET expressed his joy that the elevated section of the project has reached the finish line.
Mr. Olivier BROCHET said that to build this metro line 3, the French companies selected and participating in the project brought to Vietnam cutting-edge technologies with the best international standards, from the Metropolis trains provided by Alstom to the automatic ticketing system RATP Smart Systems.
This project complements France's previous successes in major structural and innovation projects across the country.
Research on expanding Nhon - Hanoi station metro to Hoang Mai
At the ceremony this morning, November 9, Mr. Julien Guerrier - Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam informed that, through the partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD), the EU has mobilized 10 million euros to finance activities to prepare for the expansion of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line to Hoang Mai district.
“Our support includes a feasibility study and other studies to effectively develop the public transport network of the capital Hanoi. Furthermore, we are committed to supporting the mobilization of a European consortium to invest in this extension, including AFD, KFW and possibly the European Investment Bank.
This is in line with the EU's Global Gateway initiative and provides EU partner countries like Vietnam with quality EU cooperation," Mr. Julien Guerrier shared.
Immediately after the commercial operation ceremony, committing to develop the capital's urban railway system towards the goal of Net Zero by 2050, the delegates performed the ceremony of attaching the inauguration sign to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) for the elevated section of the Hanoi Pilot Urban Railway Project, Nhon - Hanoi Station section.
